Week two… and first, thank you so much to everyone who reached out.
From the friend who shared a photo of the first owls in their nesting box, to the friend who sent me pictures of eco markers protecting turtles in France, to so many of you who simply get it and are excited to be along for the ride, thank you. You are exactly why I wanted to share The Daily Wild. My hope is that this becomes a space where we can inspire each other, share what we’re noticing, and bring a little more nature into everyday life.
Seriously, please keep the photos and stories coming. I love seeing them!
A few of you have also asked about the card decks and when they’ll be available. I’m excited to share that on Saturday, May 16, I’ll be selling the first edition sets of The Daily Wild Animal Inspiration Cards at the Arboretum Food & Artisan Market here in North Austin. The market runs Saturdays from 11–3 at Great Hills Trail and Jollyville, in the Juliet parking lot. If you’re local, come say hi!
And if you’re not local, my goal is to have the decks available on the website by this time next week.
This week’s featured animal is the Meerkat. I honestly didn’t know much about meerkats until the documentary series Meerkat Manor came out years ago (2005). It followed Flower and the rest of the Whiskers family, showing the way they survived through shared awareness, protection, and community.
Since I’m personally terrible at asking for help or reaching out when I need something, this week’s message hit home for me. Maybe you need the reminder too?

LESSONS FROM THE WILD
You do not have to stay on guard alone.

MEERKAT
Mother’s Day felt like the right moment to talk about Meerkat.
Not because meerkats are soft or sentimental, but because they survive through shared responsibility. One stands watch while the others rest. Then another takes a turn. No one stays alert forever.
That balance feels especially important right now.
So many people, especially mothers, caregivers, leaders, and protectors, move through life carrying invisible responsibility. Watching everything, anticipating problems, and holding things together quietly in the background. Staying alert long after everyone else has relaxed.
But Meerkat reminds us that constant vigilance was never meant to be a solo job. Meerkats thrive because they rely on each other. Awareness is shared, protection rotates, and rest is built into the system. Their resilience comes from community, not from one individual carrying the weight alone.
As a guide, Meerkat asks an important question: what would change if you allowed yourself to be supported? Sometimes strength looks less like holding everything together and more like trusting someone else to stand watch beside you.
This was the reminder I needed this week and maybe you need it too.
Wild Prompt: Where in my life have I been carrying responsibility alone when support may already exist?
Your Daily Wild Experiment
Each week in this space, you’ll get something to try, a simple way to connect more deeply to the wild all around you.
Here’s this week’s Daily Wild Experiment.
This week, ask for help with one small thing you would normally handle yourself.
Let someone carry part of the load.
Notice where you instinctively stay “on” even when you don’t need to.
If you can, spend a few quiet moments outside observing how nature rarely operates alone. Birds move in groups. Trees share resources underground. Animals rely on collective awareness for survival.
The wild is full of reminders that support is natural. You were never meant to do everything by yourself.
I’d Love To Hear From You.
As we build this community, I would love more than anything to hear from you. What’s landing? What did you notice this week? What do you want more of? Just reply to this email and let me know.
There is so much more to come in the next few weeks and months and I’ll share it all with you here.
I would also love it if you would help me grow and share the subscribe link with friends you think would enjoy The Daily Wild?
